Nice new application for your Mac. Just a kind of personal server connected to the internet, an external disk with added function.
It is actually just doing what Microsoft intened to do with it's Home Server. By making it, for all practical purposes, just another full scale Windows box they made it not an obvious choice for most home networking people. By puting it as a simple appliance Apple gets it right.
Now if things keep moving in the same direction, it may change the internet. Today everything is on big servers in big warehouses or datacenters. So if you want to show a picture to your friends you have to upload it to some foreighn serever and you practically lose control over it (OK, you can change or delete it but that's an involved process again). If everybody has a home-server connected to the internet there is no need for the upload and remote-managing mess. you keep eveything on your own server at home and just send a couple of links up to the big internet site. So Flikr, YouTube and the like don't have to set-up and manage huge server farms and ultra fat internet pipes. It shifts back the balance to the actual users.

How do finger-gestures differe from mouse-gestures (available in Opera since ... forever)?
The idea and principle is the same, just the technical means to execute them is different. And that technology was patented long ago already. I wonder, if this is patentable why wouldn't it be patentable -with a different patent of course- when descrivbed as gestures for left-hand users? And yet another patent for people who use thier pinkie instead of their index finger? And ...
Silly patent system.

Quadcore mobile chips from Intel. And cheap buggers as well. Not intended for your light and small netbook, not even for actaul notebooks I suppose, it's a gamining chip and that needs a big screen and other battery-killing stuff so it will be ratyher desktop-replacements. But no doubt this will be welcomed for small servers. Lots of power with still a reasonable cooling requirement and low price.
I suppose people at AMD aren't enjoying their breakfast when they see this.

Sony joining the netbook scene? No. Yes. No, maybe. They certainly won't go on the cheap side. They could go for a modernised PictureBook, slimmer, faster and all that. Or they could just size down one of their VAIO notebooks, they have always had smaller versions than the comppetition.
My bet is they go both ways. An upgraded Picturebook would sell well if they can make it ultra thin and light. And if they shring one of their VAIOs down to 10" screen while keeping notebook performance they could blow the other netbooks out of the water.
If they can keep the price acceptable of course.

Sure, why not. The icons changing shape in OS2 depending on the program/document state is no prior art. Of course.
More serious is that this case shows (yet again) that the patent system is not working for what it was intended. When a patent is granted ten years after it was applied for makes it clear that patents cannot be used to protect inventions. Patents these days are only intended to line (thickly) lawyers pockets.

Nintendo cannot jump in on video like MS and Sony did. Their consoles are designed for it while the Nintendo boxes are just not able to do it. Big hurdle. Unless you check out the market. The XBox and PS3 obly offer a very limited range of accessories and what is on offer are light variations on the control pad, with the odd flight-stick of race-wheel thrown in. For the WII there are accessories in all shapes and for all functions, almost nobody uses a WII with just the plain original controll pad. So an external video ad-on should be easy to do without shocking the market.

Science breaktroughs.
Always interesting. But also a bit puzling. Reprogramable cells are an intersting find but outside the US they are less important. With it's stringet anti-stemcell stance the governement made sure research had to deviate from what stemcells could be used for to a research in how to create stemcells without breaking the religeous laws. Great, you fionally found it so now you can start with the projects you should have started five or ten years ago.

Hawaii could put itself firmly on the map with Electric cars. In the US California has always been pushing green tech but I think Hawaii aught to be doing that. All fuel needs to be inported the long and dificult way and thus costs more than in the rest of the US. But they have lots of sun for solar power, they got plenty of wind and waves to tap energy from. And they sit on a bunch of volcanoes they can exploit for geo-thermals. Hawaii could be an electric paradise.
