This is not a soup at all. It is a good alternative for hamburgers, so if you are organising a barbeque and there are some vegetarians among the guests it's a perfect substitute for them. The good thing is that you make them in advance so you don't have a timing problem. Actually you can make sausages with this filling just as well.

....
Peel the potato and cut it into dice. Chop up the sjalots and garlic.
Fry the sjalots and garlic and add the spices. Once they start glazing, the sjalots, not the spices, you add the lentils and potato. Drown the lot in water and let it cook, low, for a good 30 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stirr regulary.
When the water is all taken in by the lentilas and potatoes spoon the mash into the form and press down fitmly to form burgers. Let them cool a bit so they stick together well.
Bake them in a frying pan or on a barbeque (fine-grid).
